Stay Cool & Save Money This Summer

by CashTime Loan Centers

It’s the middle of July and you’re in Arizona.  Surprise, surprise it’s hot!  Many residents make the mistake of simply cranking up the air conditioning without thinking how heavily this impacts their finances.  Never fear, Cash Time is here with some simple tricks to help keep cool during the desert summer without spending even more money.

Plan activities in public places that offer cool atmospheres.

  • Visit the library for free books, magazines, movies, Wi-Fi, and AC!
  • Go see a classic movie matinee at the theatre.  Most of these cost a couple of dollars which is way less than cranking the AC at your house for 3 hours.
  • Go ice-skating.  Arizona has many ice arenas that offer public skating every afternoon throughout the summer.  Simply rent some skates and enjoy the super cool temperatures.

Try some of these around-the-house life hacks to keep cool without using more power with the air conditioner.

  • Keep a few bottles of water in your freezer.  Put one next to you in bed, put one behind your neck when you watch TV, and bring one with you when you’re outside for extra cool drinking water for an extended period of time.
  • Take a cold shower, and don’t towel off.  The cold shower will cool you off, while the water evaporating off of you will keep you cool even longer.
  • Freeze your pillowcase.  One of the best ways to stay cool is to keep your head cool.  A frozen pillow case will keep your head nice and cool while you try to fall asleep.

You will always have to use your air conditioner. Try these tips to maximize your AC’s efficiency and save a buck or two!

  • Use your fans correctly.  Check to see if your fans have a summer setting.  The direction of the air flow can keep the cool air circulating properly and prevent the AC from turning on when it reads the temperature incorrectly.  Not to mention a small breeze will make you feel cooler.
  • Keep your curtains and blinds drawn during the day.  Blocking as much of the intense Arizona heat can keep the AC from turning on more often than it needs to.
  • Don’t use your oven to cook.  The oven will heat you kitchen area drastically.  Plan on microwaving inside, or grilling outside to keep the cool air cool!
  • News flash.  You don’t need to set your air conditioner to “room temperature” or 72 degrees.  Try 78 or 79 degrees, saves a ton of energy and feels plenty cool enough when it’s 110 outside.

Using a little initiative can keep you from over extending yourself this summer.  Hopefully these tips will save you some cash.  Cash Time Loan Centers understand that no matter what precautions you take, emergency expenses will pop up.  We understand financial emergencies and we’re there when you need us.  Stay cool this summer!
